Netanyahu Tells Security Chiefs to ‘Act Forcefully’ in Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the country’s top security officials to “act forcefully” in Gaza after a sharp rise in violence between Israel and Hamas. His comments came during a high-level security meeting as tensions in the region continue to grow.

Rising Tensions

The situation in Gaza has escalated over the past few days, with increased rocket fire from the enclave and airstrikes carried out by the Israeli military in response. Several areas in southern Gaza were hit, and explosions were reported in multiple neighborhoods.

Netanyahu said Israel would not allow continued attacks on its citizens and warned that “every act of aggression will be met with a powerful response.”

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed it targeted what it called “Hamas military infrastructure” in Gaza. According to officials, these strikes were intended to weaken Hamas’s ability to launch more attacks.

Security Meeting in Jerusalem

During the emergency security meeting in Jerusalem, Netanyahu met with defense chiefs, military commanders, and intelligence officials to discuss the next steps. He told them to “act forcefully, without hesitation” and to take all necessary measures to protect Israeli civilians.

“We will restore security and peace to our citizens. Whoever harms us will pay a heavy price,” Netanyahu said.

The Prime Minister’s office also released a statement saying the government is prepared for a “prolonged operation” if necessary.

Gaza Responds

Hamas has condemned Israel’s airstrikes and accused the Israeli government of increasing violence against Palestinians. In a statement, Hamas said Israel would “bear the consequences” of its actions.

Local media in Gaza reported damage to several buildings and injuries to civilians, though the exact number has not been confirmed. Hospitals and emergency services in Gaza are reportedly on high alert.

International Reactions

The growing conflict has drawn international concern. The United Nations and several countries have called for both sides to show restraint and avoid actions that could worsen the situation. A UN spokesperson said, “We urge all parties to de-escalate immediately and protect civilian lives.”

The U.S. State Department also released a statement supporting Israel’s right to defend itself but urged all parties to avoid further civilian harm.

Longstanding Conflict

The latest flare-up is part of the long-running conflict between Israel and Hamas, which has controlled Gaza since 2007. Periodic escalations have led to deadly confrontations, causing suffering for both Israeli and Palestinian civilians.

Ceasefires have been attempted many times in the past, often with international mediation, but lasting peace has remained difficult to achieve.

Looking Ahead

As of now, there is no sign of either side backing down. Netanyahu’s directive to “act forcefully” signals that Israel may intensify military operations in the coming days. Analysts warn that if the situation is not contained soon, it could lead to a wider conflict.

International mediators are expected to push for calm, but the next few days will likely be crucial in determining whether the violence will escalate further or ease through diplomacy.
